Sri Lanka Women Beat Pakistan Women by Six Wickets to Take 1-0 Lead in T20I Series

Sri Lanka Women began their three-match T20I series against Pakistan Women with a six-wicket victory in the opening match at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, chasing down a challenging target to secure an early advantage in the series.

After Pakistan posted a competitive total of 176 for 7 in their 20 overs, Sri Lanka responded with an impressive batting display to reach 177 for 4 in 19 overs, completing the chase with six balls to spare. The successful pursuit highlighted the hosts’ confidence following their recent ODI series triumph over the same opposition.

The standout performer was Imesha Dulani, who produced a match-winning unbeaten century. Her composed yet attacking innings anchored Sri Lanka’s chase, allowing the hosts to absorb early pressure before accelerating during the middle and closing overs. Dulani received strong support from the middle order as Sri Lanka kept the required run rate under control despite Pakistan’s efforts to break the partnership.

Earlier, Pakistan’s batters laid a solid platform with a series of valuable contributions that lifted the visitors to a formidable total. However, their bowling attack struggled to contain Sri Lanka’s batting once Dulani settled at the crease. Although Pakistan claimed four wickets during the chase, they were unable to halt the hosts’ momentum in the closing stages.

The result continues Sri Lanka’s positive run against Pakistan after the home side recently claimed the ODI series, carrying that momentum into the shortest format. With two matches still to be played, Sri Lanka now holds a 1-0 lead and will look to wrap up the series in the second T20I, while Pakistan will aim to bounce back and level the contest.

Both teams are also using the bilateral series to fine-tune combinations ahead of upcoming international assignments, making the remaining matches an important opportunity to build form and assess squad depth.
