Resurfaced Video of RSF Leader Hemedti Misleadingly Linked to Border Tension with Egypt

Fact-checking investigations have confirmed that a viral video claiming to show Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti) threatening to strike Egyptian airports following recent incidents involving Sudanese gold miners is out of context and recycled.

The video clips circulating across social media platforms depict Hemedti declaring that “any airport involved in airstrikes against RSF forces is a legitimate target”. However, regional media monitors and fact-checkers verified that the footage originates from archived speeches delivered in October 2024 and late 2025. The clips were edited and re-circulated online to falsely connect his past statements to recent security developments along the Sudan-Egypt border.

The resurfacing of the video follows escalating border tensions and reports involving Sudanese gold miners in remote frontier regions. Misleading social media posts spliced past RSF declarations alongside recent border news to imply an imminent threat against Egyptian aviation infrastructure.

Fact-checkers urge media outlets and the public to verify digital content and avoid sharing unsourced or recycled video clips intended to escalate regional tensions. Neither official RSF channels nor Egyptian military authorities have issued statements confirming any new operational threats against civil or military aviation infrastructure.
